For nightlife, City Market is held every Friday during the summer months where locals enjoy food, live music and local vendors in the downtown area. Among many seasonal activities, Rockford is also home to the Screw City Beer Fest and the annual Stroll on State holiday festival drawing tens of thousands of attendees. Sports fanatics can catch a baseball game at the Rockford Rivets Stadium, cheer on the Chicago Blackhawks’ affiliate team, the Rockford Ice Hogs, or watch the Ski Broncs perform on the Rock River. Rockford features many family friendly activities including the Discovery Center, Art Museum and the Burpee Museum, home to Jane the T-Rex. Also hometown to Rock and Roll Hall-of-Fame rock group, Cheap Trick, Rockford continues to showcase the best local, regional and national entertainment at a variety of venues throughout the city. Twice a year, many of Rockford’s restaurants and shops transform into art exhibits for the Art Scene festival for local artists to showcase their work. Rockford features areas of higher education including Northern Illinois University, Rockford University, RockValley College, Upper Iowa University, as well as the home of the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
